Landscapes are a critical aspect of residential, commercial and industrial buildings. A landscape will not only improve the appeal of a building but also increase its value. More often than not, clients will give the contractor some freedom when it comes it landscapes. In the article below, you will learn a few considerations to make when designing landscapes for your client.

Evaluate the Drainage

Plants cannot grow on waterlogged soil. As such, the landscape must have good drainage. Harvest rainwater to prevent water pools during the rainy season. If the area does not have a slope, install land drainage coils to avoid waterlogging.

Choosing Grass

Choose a grass that is suitable for the area. For example, Kikuyu and buffalo grass are warm-season grasses. On the other hand, fescues and ryegrass are perfect for cold weather. You could opt to mix the warm and cool-season grasses to ensure a healthy lawn all year round. Although seed takes time to grow, it may give a more healthy lawn compared to sod. If you opt to use sod, be on the lookout for weeds and pests on the grass. Plant fast-growing grass such as Bermuda in areas with a slope.

Installations

Landscape installations, such as patios and decks, are perfect recreational areas. Think about the intended use of the area. For instance, a commercial and industrial building may not require a swimming pool. However, people that work in the area may need a patio or gazebo to relax during breaks. The design of these installations should complement the building's exterior. Besides, the structures must blend into the landscape. For example, you could plant vines along the gazebo or have flower pots in the patio.

Use pressure-treated wood when building these installations. The timber is weather and pest resistant; hence, the structures will last long.

Lighting

Good lighting will make the landscape attractive at night. Install spotlights to highlight steps and other landscape features, such as shrubs. Spotlights can also be installed along the driveway. Patios and gazebos should have subtle lights. It helps create excellent ambience at night. Wall lanterns can be used as a security feature. For example, you could install them on either side of the gate. Use energy-efficient LED lights for your landscape.

Install sprinklers to ensure your client has an easy time maintaining the lawn. Besides, encourage him or her to use organic fertilisers.

Designing a landscape for your client should not be difficult with the above tips. Evaluate the area's drainage, choose a suitable grass, consider garden installations, and creatively use light fixtures. Look for somewhere that has landscaping supplies for your next project.
